Road Trip Down The Amazon River

Greetings from Brazil! Yesterday, our ship entered the mouth of the Amazon River except you would not have known if it was not for the slight discoloration of water as we gradually entered in Amazon. As you will see in the picture, you could confuse the river with the ocean because you can't see land. At some points in the river it is over 50 miles wide! It is rainy season in the Amazon so the river is a nice brown color, you definitely know that you are on a river. The river is really a magnificent site, the largest river in the world by volume. So far today we have been anchored in Macapa, Brazil where we are exactly at 0 degrees, right on the equator. It's pretty hot out there. The ship is going through customs and we picked up some diplomats who will speak to us about Brazil as we travel further up the Amazon through tomorrow before arriving in Manaus on Tuesday morning. Not sure if I'll have a chance to update until after we 're heading out of Brazil, plans call for me to explore the Amazon and Rio de Janeiro. This picture is from last night at sunset.
